Mount Saint Mary College students from left, Nicholas Terzulli of Brooklyn, N.Y., Anahi Lima of Newburgh, N.Y., and Makayla Caso of Highland, N.Y. sort donated prom dresses by size and color in Hudson Hall on Friday, April 1.
Prom Fest at Mount Saint Mary College, which offered high school students the opportunity to find affordable prom dresses, earned more than $600 for the St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital Scholarship Fund.
The scholarship will be awarded to a current Mount student.
Held at the Mount’s Hudson Hall Auditorium on April 2, the event distributed some 60 gently used dresses, donated by students, faculty, staff, local businesses, and area residents. In addition to the Mount, there were dress drop-off points located throughout Orange County.
About 50 families attended the event.
Prom Fest co-coordinator Brianne Thompson, leadership development coach at the Mount, praised students for their dedication to the project.
“From sorting the dresses beforehand to helping out during the event, the students are blowing me away with how helpful they have been,” she explained.
Mount student volunteers included Makayla Caso of Highland, N.Y.; Anahi Lima of Newburgh, N.Y.; Nicholas Terzulli of Brooklyn, N.Y.; Nicolette Moustouka of Seaford, N.Y.; Marie Finch of Salt Point, N.Y.; Amanda Almodovar of Goshen, N.Y.; Kelsey Simeone of Newington, Conn.; Katie Hertlein of Glenwood, N.J.; Jessica Radenberg of Staten Island, N.Y.; Morgan Jacobsen of Walden, N.Y.; Bradley Moody of Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; and John Chiaia of Brooklyn, N.Y.
