Kristen Dellasala, director of online learning at Mount Saint Mary College, presented “Engaging Online Students Through Active Learning, Contemplative Pedagogies and Storytelling” at the March 2016 Quality Matters Regional Conference in New York City.
Dellasala’s presentation explored strategies for engaging online students and encouraging them to become active learners. She examined how a contemplative pedagogical methodology – storytelling – can be used in an online classroom setting by discussing how stories can be student-generated, as well as how computer audio programs can be used to create narratives or report on stories.
Quality Matters is an international organization representing broad inter-institutional collaboration and a shared understanding of online course quality, with the goal to improve and certify the design of online and blended courses.
