The 23rd Annual Conference on Literacy, titled “Family and Community Engagement: Strategies for Success,” will take place at Mount Saint Mary College on Saturday, April 16.
Sponsored by the Mount’s Collaborative for Equity on Literacy Learning (CELL), the event will explore a variety of topics through more than a dozen presentations:

Kathryn Roberts, a family literacy expert, will be the keynote presenter. Roberts is a teacher, author, researcher, and assistant professor of reading, language, and literature at Wayne State University. A former kindergarten teacher, she currently teaches pre-service and graduate courses in literacy education. Her research interests include family literacy, visual literacy, and emergent literacy. Roberts is the lead author of the series Engaging Families in Children’s Literacy Development, the family literacy program currently free to all families with young children in Newburgh.
Space is limited. The registration deadline is April 8, 2016 and the cost is $40 per person, $30 for Reading Council members with proper ID, and $20 for fulltime students. Late registration is $50. Participants can also enjoy lunch and listen to a talk by authors Londan Ladd and D. H. Figueredo for an additional $5.
