Citing serious family-related issues, Dr. Anne Carson
Daly, President of Mount Saint Mary College, will be stepping down
from her position on April 15, 2016.
“Regrettably, Mount Saint Mary College has lost a transformational leader, acclaimed scholar and administrator,” noted Dr. Albert J. Gruner, Chair of the Board of Trustees. “Unfortunately, her vision for the future greatness of the Mount will not be realized under her guidance. Family issues have become an absolute priority in her life. She will be greatly missed. The Board of Trustees wishes her all success and God’s blessings as she enters a new phase of her life.”
During Dr. Daly’s successful term as president, the Mount has added attractive academic programs, increased enrollment, improved freshman-to-sophomore retention rates to an all-time high, exceeded yearly Advancement goals, increased on-campus residency to record levels, and launched a strong five-year Strategic Plan.
“I am devastated by Dr. Daly’s decision to leave Mount Saint Mary College,” said Dr. Jeanne Hosinski, Mount Trustee. “She is truly an excellent leader who had a wonderful educational vision. I doubt we will find anyone of her caliber to lead the institution.”
Charles P. Frank, Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees, said, “I am very much saddened by the announcement of Dr. Daly’s departure. Yet, those of us who know and understand her family situation realize that, for Carson, family must and will always come first. She has brought to Mount Saint Mary College a fresh and energetic vision, and a strong focus on both professionalism and the Catholic Dominican Tradition. Her departure is a true loss not only for The Mount, but for the greater Newburgh and Hudson Valley communities. Finding a new President with the depth and breadth of her talents will truly be a daunting task. From the bottom of my heart, I thank her for her tireless dedication and efforts, and wish her the very best in every endeavor which lies before her.”
“I think that we were so fortunate to have Dr. Daly as our President,” said Tracey Niemotko, Professor of Accounting and Chair of the School of Business. “Her caliber as a professional educator and person is extraordinary. I have been impressed by her background, integrity, communication skills, generosity, kindness, and devotion to the College. When she came on board, my thought was, ‘How did we get so lucky?’”
